£1 or £2, CD or not to CD

Hey all,

Just back from a weeks break, all very pleasant and managed to find some time to write up the battle of the Nile.

While away we got an email suggesting we put up our prices for season 1 (season 2 will will soon be ready for sale, hopefully), would anyone baulk at buying if we put our prices up to £2? It was also suggested we produce a CD of the season, due to CDs only been 72min in length it would have to be a double CD.

After checking we could do it through Lulu, would anyone be interested?

Beyond Halfway

Amazingly we are over the half way point of this season! My life seems to be one never ending podcast deadline! Oh well...

We’ve started working, although very slowly, through one mans first and second world war papers which we have been lent. This chap was in the Royal Artillery and not only has his diaries survived but so has his letters which are very articulate with diagrams and other drawings. Also to go with these he took photographs! Its all very cool!

After the war he was posted to Egypt where he witnessed Tutankhamun tome being opened by Howard Carter!

For the life of me I can’t remember what he did during the second war... Needless to say the story is all so complete and compelling we are planning on doing some sort of video podcast, probably next year as we have only just started to pick through it and do the scanning!

History Feeds

Hey,

We’ve added a new page to the site, History Feeds. Here we have taken all our favorite history podcast rss feeds and presented them all as on feed so at a glance you can see what is going on in the world of history podcasting!

It would great to be able to do this with some sort of software .mp3 player that reads the feeds and played the latest of each feed in sequence so you would have almost a radio like experience. I’ve been trying to find a way of doing ti but so far it eludes me. So if you have any idea let me know.

Well at last we’ve managed to get the next season started!!! Yay...

We are a little behind with getting season two repackaged but hopefully in a wee or two we should have it ready for release with our new website (its more tricky than I anticipated) and a range of T Shirts. And to top it all got myself some new audio gear I need to get to grips with, all being well with the second podtrail (I’ve had it written nearly a year).

On an interesting now I bumped into an acquaintance the other day who now has eight deactivated WW2 guns. I wonder if we could make a set of video podcasts about them, that could be super interesting!

He told me a great story about the AK47. Almost uniquely the lever for automatic fire when up is automatic and down is single shot, the M16 and most other weapons it is the other way round. Also once out of ammunition the bolt does not stay back to signal you’ve spent your last round. When asked about this Mr Kalashnikov remarked when jumping from a tank you naturally want the weapon in “fully automatic”, and his troops would know then the gun is out of ammunition when it stops firing.
